Juvederm Q & A

What is Juvéderm?

Juvéderm refers to a type of dermal filler that Dr. Hamilton uses to fill in lines, wrinkles, and to plump areas of your face that have lost volume.

The main ingredient in Juvéderm is hyaluronic acid, which hydrates your skin and gives it the necessary support to maintain the results of the treatment. Your body produces hyaluronic acid naturally, though its production significantly decreases as you age. Juvéderm helps you regain that youthful glow.

What areas can Juvéderm treat?

In most cases, Juvéderm treats various areas of the face. Dr. Hamilton suggests that you consider Juvéderm treatment for any of the following reasons:

  • To restore volume in your midface
  • To smooth out lines on the corners of your mouth
  • To reduce smile lines
  • To plump your lips
  • To smooth out smoker’s lines

Depending on the current state of your skin, Dr. Hamilton might use Juvéderm in conjunction with another type of filler for optimal results.

Are Juvéderm injections painful?

In most cases, Juvéderm injections aren’t painful at all. However, keep in mind a needle is required, so you might feel a pinch and some pressure during the injection. The product itself contains lidocaine, a numbing agent, to ensure your comfort.

Dr. Hamilton might recommend that you ice the treatment area or use another numbing agent if you’re concerned about pain. Each injection session can last up to 60 minutes or as little as 15 minutes, depending on the issue the treatment is targeting.

What should I expect after a Juvéderm injection?*

You should notice results immediately after the session ends. You might also experience slight redness and some swelling, but this shouldn’t last longer than a week.

For best results, Dr. Hamilton recommends that you book a follow-up appointment within 10-14 days after the injection to make sure that everything is in order and that you’ve reached your aesthetic goal.

If the swelling and redness have stopped, Dr. Hamilton can recommend another injection session to get you closer to what you’re looking for.

How long do the effects of Juvéderm last?

Juvéderm isn’t a permanent solution to lines, wrinkles, and volume loss. Remember that your skin is alive and there are certain aspects of aging that you can only slow down, not eliminate. In most cases, the effects of Juvéderm last up to 18 months.
