Lip Augmentation & Lip Injections

Whether you long for fuller, more sensual lips like Angelina Jolie or want to get rid of wrinkles and other signs of aging around the lips, there are many ways to achieve the aesthetic you desire. Although there is no way to completely change the shape of your lips, you can enhance lips with several fillers such as Restylane, Perlane, Juvederm, or a permanent solution such as Silicon.

Restylane, Perlane and Juvederm all are fillers containing hyaluronic acid, which is a substance normally found in the skin, muscles, and tendons. Collagen used to be commonly used but does not last very long and there is a chance of allergy. Silicone oil can be injected into the lips in micro-droplets, through a tiny needle at multiple points. Over time skin cells called fibroblasts produce new collagen, which in turn grows around the silicone droplets. More collagen growth is stimulated by continued injections. Silicone oil is approved by the FDA as a Medical Device.

As we age, lips even out and thin out. A perfect lip should have a ratio of 1:3, with the lower lip always fuller than the top. When the upper lip is fuller than bottom, we start to achieve the “trout pout” or a Marge Simpson look.

Additionally, trying to plump the lips too much can distort natural curves and may create the appearance of "sausage lips. " Over aggressive injections can also lead to lumpiness. Vertical wrinkles or Smoker's Lines begin to appear with time, causing your lipstick to bleed.

Aging tends to cause the corners of the mouth to turn down and V-shaped area of the upper lip known as Cupid's Bow begins to flatten out and lose its youthful fullness -- these are both features that can easily be corrected with lip augmentation.

We offer a free consultation so we can discuss your specific expectations and confirm what look would be the best look for you.

Dr. Hamilton has been practicing lip augmentation for over 30 years and Shanah, his PA, for over 10 years. The procedure itself is very quick and results are immediate. We have an excellent numbing cream and can also perform a nerve block if needed. Although it is rare, bruising and swelling is a possibility but can easily be concealed with make up. There is no recovery time for lip augmentation, so patients are able return to normal activities right away.

Lip enhancement can be a great choice for a wide range of individuals including both men and women of a large age range. Some patients are allergic to the common local anesthetics like lidocaine and probably should not consider lip injections. Patients that should forego procedures to the lip include those who have active skin conditions like cold sores, blood clotting problems, infections, scarring of the lips or certain diseases like diabetes or lupus that cause slower healing.
