Radiesse™ is available in our Beverly Hills & Woodland Hills offices and composed of calcium hydroxylapatite, a naturally occurring component found in bone and teeth that appears, unlike some other fillers, to have no risk of allergy when used as an implant.
We have been treating patients with Radiesse since December 2002 in our Beverly Hills & Woodland Hills offices for improvement of expression lines and for recontouring the face cheek hollows, cheek bones, and jaw /chin augmentation. We feel is it often the treatment of choice for large scale replacement of bone ( lower jaw in female ) and fat loss ( cheeks ) that occurs aspart of the facial aging process.
Radiesse is better for this purpose than Restylane or Juvederm because it is much firmer and more supportive of the skin, mimicking fat and bone tissue.
(We also use Sculptra for cheek contouring: the results are slower to achieve, more expensive, but longer lasting than with Radiesse). The procedure is performed with a small gauge needle injection after the application of a topical anesthetic cream. The procedure is not painful; the filler is mixed with xylocaine anesthetic. Radiesse, possibly because of its particle size, can produce a little bruising, so it is better to avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, and fish oil for the week before to reduce this likelihood.
You notice results on the day of the procedure, and effects typically last 1 to 1 ½ years. Over the past 9 years we have treated over 1100 patients with Radiesse. Why choose one filler over another? The answer relates to: cost, duration, and location of treatment ( some fillers are just not right for certain facial areas - no one filler is the answer for everything ).
