Dysport
Brief description the treatment: This injectable treatment for wrinkles is made from the same neurotoxin (botulinum toxin type A) as Botox. Dysport received the approval of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use as a wrinkle treatment in the spring of 2009, but it has been used in Europe, South America, and elsewhere for several years. Like Botox, this injectable was originally developed in the 1990s to treat neuromuscular disorders.
Dysport is injected with a tiny needle directly into the muscles that cause facial
wrinkles, temporarily relaxing them. Results begin to appear within seven days aftertreatment, although some patients see results much earlier. The studies are mixed, however, about whether the results possibly last longer than Botox. Dysport can last 3 to 6 months. Some areas that we use Dysport are frown lines, horizontal forehead, crows feet, lip lines, corners of the mouth, chin (golf ball chin), bunny lines (sides of nose) and neck bands (vertical cords).
We use an excellent numbing ointment about fifteen minutes prior to the procedure so the injections are painless. There are about 2 to 6 injections per area which takes seconds to perform. Avoiding certain medications, herbs, fish oil, vitamin E, Aspirin and Ibuprofen about a week before treatment helps to prevent uncommon bruising.
