No one likes the presence of unsightly hair that grows in a manner less than aesthetically pleasing. The presence of hair on such “acceptable” areas such as the arms, legs, and chest can be problematic. But matted, thick, or coarse hair on the back and shoulders can prove even more annoying. Dealing with the problem can be tough because shaving and waxing can only deliver temporary results. That is why it is so beneficial that the process of laser hair removal has been developed.

There are a number of factors that contribute to being an ideal candidate for laser hair removal. A person whose skin displays the presence of the aforementioned coarse and thick hair would be the most obvious candidate. Or, more accurately, a person looking for the complete and permanent removal of hair would be the best candidate since any hair removed by a laser procedure will not grow back.

Hair color also plays a role in the effectiveness of laser hair removal. Those with dark hair will notice the most obvious results. Those with blonde or reddish hair will see decent results but not to the degree of someone with dark hair. The thickness of the hair and its coarseness will also play a factor in the eventual results. The coarser and thicker one’s hair is, the better the results will be. The follicles of thin and fine hair do not break as easily as coarse and thick ones. However, those with thin and fine hair will notice results from laser hair removal.

The results of laser hair removal will increase if the patient has avoided previous methods of hair removal in the past. Specifically, those that have undergone procedures such as electrolysis or waxing might have less with laser removal procedures than those who have not undergone such treatments.

For more information on laser hair removal, Restylane® and BOTOX® injections, LipoDissolve, Thermage®, and other treatment options, it is important to speak with a skilled cosmetic dermatologist at our skin rejuvenation centers in Los Angeles.

Restylane® is a relatively new non-surgical cosmetic procedure that helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and create a more youthful looking appearance to the face. Getting Restylane® injections is simple, and there is very little involved with the process.

Before Getting Restylane® Injections

Before getting your Restylane® injection, you will need to schedule a basic consultation with a cosmetic surgeon that offers this method of treatment. The surgeon will discuss the procedure with you, so that you are fully aware of what it entails.

You will provide the doctor with your complete medical history during this consultation, along with information on any allergies you may have, so that he or she can determine if you make a good candidate for the Restylane® procedure.

During the Restylane® Injection Procedure

Receiving your Restylane® injections is simple, and takes only a few minutes to perform. There is no need for anesthesia to receive the injections, though in some cases the doctor may apply a topical numbing agent or use cold compresses to numb the skin where the injections will be given.

You will be placed into a chair similar to that found in a dentist’s office, so that you are reclining to receive the injection. The doctor will inject the medication into the skin using a very thin needle, placing the solution into those muscles which have caused the skin to wrinkle and sag. Results from the Restylane® injections can be seen almost immediately, and the entire injection process takes only about thirty minutes to complete.

After Receiving Restylane® Injections

As this particular form of cosmetic treatment is non-invasive and the process causes virtually no pain, most people are able to return to their normal activities immediately following treatment. You may want to use cold compresses immediately following the treatment to help reduce the minor swelling that generally occurs, but any of the discomfort you experience from treatment should fade within a few hours.

The solution used in the Restylane® injections will eventually be absorbed into your body so results from treatment are not permanent, however most people find that their results last for 10 to 12 months before another injection is necessary.

For more information about Restylane® as well as other cosmetic treatments such as laser hair removal and Thermage®, it is important to schedule an appointment at our skin rejuvenation and wrinkle removal center in Los Angeles.

Restylane® is a non-animal, biodegradable filler that is used in cosmetic procedures as an alternative to collagen fillers. It is based on hyaluronic acid, which is naturally found in the body where it adds volume to the skin. Restylane® is clear and has a gelatinous consistency. When injected into the skin, Restylane® retains its shape and volume, and the shape of the skin around it, by reacting to the body’s own moisture.

When Restylane® is injected in the skin, it erases facial wrinkles even better than skin resurfacing because it fills out the fine lines in the skin from the inside. It is typically injected into the lips to create fuller lips or on other sites on the face to fill out wrinkles such as around the mouth to fill-out and eliminate laugh lines.

The price of Restylane® injections varies, but a vial of Restylane® typically costs a few hundred dollars. Restylane® injections are considered a cosmetic procedure and are not covered by insurance. Most doctors have financing plans available for their patients.

Restylane® injections take only a few minutes to complete. Treatments are performed in the doctor’s office. Local anesthesia may be used, particularly for lip treatments. Patients do report feeling mild pain and discomfort when and where the Restylane® is injected. Patients can return to normal activities immediately after receiving Restylane® injections. Patients are advised, however, to avoid the sun for a few days after treatment.

Severe complications, such as overfilling the skin at the injection site with Restylane®, are usually the result of an inexperienced practitioner injecting the Restylane®. Other minor side effects include headache and nausea and pain and swelling around the injection site(s). Swelling usually subsides in two to three days. The full results of the injections can be seen in about one week and last for about six months.

For more information about Restylane® as well as other cosmetic treatments such as laser hair removal and Thermage®, it is important to schedule an appointment at our skin rejuvenation and wrinkle removal center in Los Angeles.

Laser hair removal is one effective way for people to rid themselves of unsightly or unwanted hair on different areas of the body. Below are some of the most frequently asked questions about laser hair removal.

What is laser hair removal?

Laser hair removal is a procedure in which a specialized laser light beam is used to remove hair. The results of laser hair removal can last for several months, depending on which area of the body is treated. More than one session might be required to achieve the desired results.

How is laser hair removal different from other hair removal techniques?

In general, use of the laser is quicker and less uncomfortable than traditional hair removal techniques such as electrolysis or waxing. Although it is more expensive, the results of this hair removal technique last longer, and usually fewer sessions are required.

Is laser hair removal painful?

Sometimes there is mild discomfort during and after the procedure. The physician or nurse might apply an anesthetic lotion or spray prior to treatment, and you’ll be given specific instructions for post-treatment care at home, including management of any discomfort. Side effects or complications are not common, but could include burns or infection, conditions which can be treated.

Where can I find a doctor for laser hair removal?

Laser hair removal is performed in an outpatient setting, by a physician or nurse who is trained, experienced, and certified in this technique. Your primary care physician might be able to recommend a dermatologist or laser hair removal center.

Does laser hair removal work for everyone?

Some people are better candidates for laser hair removal than others, and some should avoid laser hair removal. People with certain hair or skin colors, certain medical or skin conditions, taking certain medications, and pregnant women, among others, might not see optimal results, or might need to avoid laser hair removal all together. Physicians and RNs certified in this technique can evaluate and discuss your overall health status and recommend whether or not this option is appropriate for you.

For more information on laser hair removal, Restylane® and BOTOX® injections, LipoDissolve, Thermage®, and other treatment options, it is important to speak with a skilled cosmetic dermatologist at our skin rejuvenation centers in Los Angeles.

Excessive and unwanted body hair and facial hair can make someone feel self-conscious and unattractive, especially when bathing suit season comes around. There are a number of hair removal options out there, and one of the more popular and high-tech options is laser hair removal.

Yet despite the popularity of laser hair removal, people do wonder just how effective it is compared to other methods, such as tweezing, shaving, waxing, and electrolysis. Below is some general information on the effectiveness of laser hair removal compared to those other hair removal techniques.

Shaving vs. Laser Hair Removal

Shaving seems like a good option for hair removal, but in order to keep areas of the body smooth, you have to shave every day. This could leads to nicks, cuts, or razor burn. With laser hair removal, the effects last longer and repeat treatments aren’t required for weeks.

Tweezing vs. Laser Hair Removal

While tweezing is a longer-lasting alternative to shaving, it can be quite painful, and it takes too long to tweeze large patches of pair. Laser hair removal is, by comparison, not particularly painful. A topical anesthetic is used to ensure there is as little discomfort as possible.

Waxing vs. Laser Hair Removal

If you thought tweezing was painful, wait until you try waxing. As effective as it is, people who undergo waxing will often have uneven stubble in the waxed areas in between waxes. With laser hair removal, as soon as hair grows back, it can be treated, even if the patches are uneven.

Electrolysis vs. Laser Hair Removal

Electrolysis can be an effective means of hair removal, but since it involves injections or electrical pulses on each hair follicle, the procedure is quite slow and can cause a great deal of discomfort. Laser hair removal mitigates the time required and the feeling of discomfort.

If you’re interested in laser hair removal or other non-surgical cosmetic treatments such as Restylane®, Thermage®, or ArteColl® (Artefill®), visit our Los Angeles skin rejuvenation and lip enhancement center.

A common complaint about dermal fillers is the short duration of achieved results. Most last for three to six months, but others can get absorbed by the patient’s body in as little as six weeks! Luckily, there’s a new solution for patients who want to prolong their youthful looks. Artefill®, also known as Artecoll®, is a new type of long-lasting dermal filler whose results can last for many years.

Artefill® (Artecoll®) rejuvenates skin in two ways. First, the dermal filler is injected into deep lines on the face, such as the nasolabial folds which run from the sides of the nose past the mouth. The injections are a combination of bovine collagen and tiny microspheres made from synthetic materials used in medical implants. Each injection deposits some of this compound beneath the patient’s skin, filling in lines and wrinkles to achieve a younger look.

Artefill® (Artecoll®) is different from other dermal fillers because it actually stimulates the patient’s body to produce its own collagen over time. While other dermal fillers get absorbed within three to six months, the collagen in Artefill® is replaced by the patient’s own newly-produced collagen. This brings about long-lasting results that have been described as ‘practically permanent’.

Some patients have experienced adverse reactions to Artefill®. Since the collagen used in the injections is derived from cows, allergic reactions are a possibility. Choose a cosmetic dermatologist who will do allergy testing prior to the procedure. Also, some patients have developed hardened scar tissue years after their Artefill® treatment. Always talk to your doctor about the possible risks of any cosmetic procedure.

For more information on Artefill® or to learn about treatments such as laser hair removal, Thermage®, and lip enhancement, we encourage you to visit or contact our Beverly Hills skin rejuvenation office serving Los Angeles.
